1. There's no time like the present.
Okay, yes, that is a cliché, but it's the truth. June has gone, we're now in July, and soon it will be August! Don't let these precious months slip away without immersing yourself in a few good reads. There's nothing like winding down from a long day by sitting outside on the porch with a good book. Or, better yet, take some books to the beach and read them next to the ocean waves.
2. Sometimes, you need a technology detox.
Many of us are in the habit of spending our free time on Facebook and Instagram when we could be doing so much more. Reading stimulates your brain more than social media ever will. And, let's face it, reading a story is so much more interesting than checking up on all of your five hundred Facebook friends.
3. You will feel inspired.
We all love the summer, but sometimes when life slows down, it can seem a little mundane. That's when reading comes in! If you want adventure, romance, passion, action, mystery - you can find it in a book. As you turn the pages, you will gasp, smile, cry, and feel many emotions as you embark on a journey from your living room sofa. You will be inspired to live these emotions and ventures in your own life. You will have new ideas you'll want to explore, and new places you'll want to see.
4. You will be indulging in yourself.
Summer is the season of renewal. "Me time" is always a necessity but, in this case, you will be indulging in yourself by not thinking about yourself. Life is stressful, and sometimes you need to take a step back and focus on something or someone that's not YOU. Your wandering mind can take a peek into a life that's far from your own, and most of the time, you'll end up wishing characters could be your friends in real life.
5. You will want to share it with the world.
Personally, I find that reading a good story cannot be contained to just one person. If you read something great, you're going to want to share it. You're going to want your best friend to learn why you're so in love with this character, why you hate that character, and why the story is so addicting that you finished it in two days. Since it's summer you can stay up all night long reading, so you can discuss chapter four with your BFF the next day.
6. You will be reminded of the true beauty that exists inside yourself.
You're definitely going to finish books with newly formed admiration for the characters you've learned about. You'll admire their talents, strengths, features, and even some of their problems - you may even have a little crush on one of them. So when you finish a story, and you can finally close the pages, it's important to remember that those characters are people just like you. Since they aren't exactly tangible, who will fill their shoes in the real world? You. When you admire a character, and you can't stop thinking or talking about something he or she did that impressed you, it's important to remember that people in your life think about you in that same way. You're actually just like that character you love. You're smart, funny, beautiful, and you even have your own unique little quirks.
So, take what you've learned from those fictional lives, apply it to your own, and put your best foot forward in your own life.
As summer comes to a close, and a new season begins, you will be reminded of how wonderful it is to just be you. Happy reading!
